I remember having a conversation with my elder sister, as a child, and mentioning something concerning "handicapped people." My sister, who has long had a passion for and works daily with people with disabilities immediately corrected me to say "people with handicap," explaining that "people come first, not their disability." I certainly didn't intend any offense with my syntax, but I've since used the appropriate people-first language, quite simply, because I know better. It is in that spirit that several members of the Shriver family, celebrities, and shoppers came together at a boutique in Santa Monica, CA last month to support those with disabilities and to fight prejudice.

A group of young people from the North Antrim area had a once-in-a-liftime experience when they met one of the world’s top movie stars recently.
Verne Troyer was filming in Belfast for “Keith Lemon: The Movie” when he met with children from North Antrim’s charity CAN. Verne is a ambassador for the Best Buddies organization and is best known for his roles as “Mini me” in the Austin Powers series and as “Griphook the Goblin” in the Harry Potter series.

When Maria Shriver and I were classmates at Georgetown University, she introduced me to her parents and her brothers. I developed a unfathomable respect and admiration for the Kennedy and Shriver families, especially for Eunice Kennedy Shriver. I considered her a saint and one of the 10 most important women in our country’s history. Her work touched more lives — mine included — than just about anyone imaginable. As a role model, she was an exemplar.
